ISLAMABAD (Dunya News) – The federal government has cut the price of petrol by Rs3.13 per litre but increased the price of high-speed diesel (HSD) by Rs3.74 per litre under newly introduced daily petroleum pricing mechanism.
The revised rates will take effect from September 5 and remain applicable until September 7, according to an official notification.
Petrol will now be sold at Rs345.87 per litre, down from Rs349, while the price of high-speed diesel has risen from Rs374.31 to Rs378.05 per litre. The latest adjustment comes amid continued volatility in international oil markets and changes in global petroleum prices.
Petroleum Minister Ali Pervaiz Malik said last Friday that the new mechanism would use a rolling seven-day average of international petroleum prices, bringing Pakistan’s fuel-pricing system closer to practices followed in international markets.
Under the framework, Ogra will publish updated prices on a daily basis without requiring prior approval from the prime minister or the federal government. However, prices notified on Fridays will remain unchanged during Saturday and Sunday.
The regulator is also required to publish daily Platts reference prices. According to the official document, this requirement has been in effect from July 1, 2026.
