ISLAMABAD (Dunya News) – Major General Faisal Naseer, a distinguished officer of Pakistan Army, has been appointed National Coordinator of the National Counter Terrorism Authority (NACTA) for a period of three years, according to a notification issued by the Establishment Division on Friday.
The appointment has been made with the approval of the federal government and will take effect immediately. Major General Faisal Naseer has been appointed to the position on secondment under Section 9(1) of the NACTA Act, 2013.
The Establishment Division notification, dated September 4, 2026, stated that the officer would serve as National Coordinator for three years on standard terms and conditions, as contained in JSI-4/85. The appointment will remain in force until further orders.
The notification said Major General Faisal Naseer had been appointed with the approval of the federal government. It was issued by the Cabinet Secretariat's Establishment Division in Islamabad and is to be published in the next issue of the Gazette of Pakistan, Part-I.
The Establishment Division has also directed the officer concerned to furnish a copy of his charge assumption report to the relevant section officer. Copies of the notification have been circulated to senior government offices, including the President's Secretariat, Prime Minister's Office, Cabinet Division and Interior Division.
The notification has also been sent to the chief secretaries of Punjab, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, Balochistan and Sindh, as well as the National Coordinator, NACTA, and relevant offices of the Accountant General of Pakistan and provincial accounting authorities.
Major General Faisal Naseer is an experienced military officer with extensive experience in counter-terrorism operations. His appointment comes as Pakistan continues counter-terrorism operations in Balochistan and Khyber Pakhtunkhwa.
As National Coordinator, he will head NACTA, the federal authority responsible for coordinating and facilitating the country's counter-terrorism and counter-extremism efforts. The appointment places an experienced officer in the authority's senior coordinating role at a time when security operations remain ongoing in parts of the country.
