DUBAI (Dunya News) - India will host the inaugural ICC Women’s Champions Trophy in 2027, with the tournament scheduled to be played in Mumbai and Vadodara from February 14 to 28.
Six leading women’s teams — Australia, England, India, New Zealand, South Africa and Sri Lanka — will compete in the first edition of the tournament.
The participating sides were selected on the basis of the ICC Women’s T20I rankings, with July 6 set as the qualification cut-off date.
The tournament will add another major global competition to the international women’s cricket calendar and bring some of the world's strongest teams together for the inaugural title.
India replaces Sri Lanka as host
Sri Lanka had initially been awarded hosting rights for the Women’s Champions Trophy, but the tournament has now been shifted to India.
According to reports, Sri Lanka is yet to implement certain reforms required under ICC guidelines.
Decisions concerning those reforms were reportedly taken during the ICC Annual Conference held in July this year.
Mumbai and Vadodara will now stage the tournament over two weeks in February 2027.
The competition will feature several of women's cricket's strongest sides, with Australia, England, India, New Zealand and South Africa joined by Sri Lanka.
The announcement also confirms that the inaugural tournament will be contested by six teams rather than following the larger field used for some other ICC global events.
