LAHORE (Dunya News) – PML-N President Nawaz Sharif and Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif met newly elected Azad Jammu and Kashmir Prime Minister Iftikhar Gillani and stressed immediate measures to resolve public issues and fulfil commitments made during the election campaign.
Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz Sharif and AJK Legislative Assembly Speaker Tariq Farooq also attended the meeting. Nawaz Sharif, Shehbaz Sharif and Maryam Nawaz congratulated Iftikhar Gillani and Tariq Farooq on their election.
Nawaz Sharif shared a 100-day reform plan with the AJK prime minister focused on improving healthcare, education, sanitation, infrastructure and other sectors. He directed the AJK government to put the region on a path of development and modernisation.
Nawaz Sharif directed Iftikhar Gillani to ensure the implementation of promises made to the people of Azad Kashmir during the election campaign.
He said it was now time to turn those promises into practical measures, recalling his commitment that a PML-N government would bring meaningful improvements to the lives of the people of Azad Kashmir.
Nawaz said quality healthcare and education, better roads and basic infrastructure were the rights of the people. He stressed that development benefits should reach remote areas and should not remain confined to major cities.
He also called for creating new opportunities for education, skills and employment for young people. He directed that the 100-day reform programme include measures that directly benefit ordinary citizens and that progress on fulfilling election promises be regularly monitored.
Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif assured the AJK government of the federal government’s full cooperation, saying the development and progress of Azad Kashmir were among the federal government’s priorities.
He said the federal government would provide all possible resources and support for development projects and public welfare initiatives in Azad Kashmir.
Shehbaz Sharif said the federal and AJK governments should work together to improve healthcare, education and basic facilities for the people.
He stressed special attention to the timely completion of development projects and immediate resolution of public issues. He also called for a comprehensive strategy to expand employment, skills and economic opportunities for AJK’s youth and directed Iftikhar Gillani to ensure swift implementation of the 100-day reform agenda.
