ISLAMABAD (Dunya News) – Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif’s Adviser on Political Affairs Senator Rana Sanaullah has said that the decision to make Barrister Iftikhar Gilani the prime minister of Azad Jammu and Kashmir was taken by PML-N leader Nawaz Sharif.
Speaking in a private television programme, Rana Sanaullah said the decision to appoint Iftikhar Gilani as AJK prime minister was made by the party leadership and Nawaz Sharif.
He said the decision had been a difficult one for the party leadership, but the final decision was made in favour of Iftikhar Gilani. He added that no one had been treated unfairly as a result of the decision.
Rana Sanaullah also said Shah Ghulam Qadir was the party president and would remain with the party at all costs. He said Shah Ghulam Qadir and Raja Farooq Haider would be included in the team.
It may be recalled that PML-N’s Iftikhar Gilani was elected as the 17th prime minister of Azad Jammu and Kashmir. He secured 30 votes, while Pakistan Peoples Party candidate Sardar Mukhtar Khan received 14 votes.
Iftikhar Gilani was first elected to the Azad Jammu and Kashmir Legislative Assembly in 2011. He has also served as AJK education minister and was elected to the assembly this time on a technocrat seat.
