KARACHI (Dunya News) – Speakers at a seminar have stressed the need to form new administration units to resolve issues.
Former PM Shahid Khaqan Abbasi in his address at seminar on Governance Review’ here on Saturday said change is a must to resolve issues, adding new provinces or administrative units could be part of the solution to the problems.
The former PM said distribution of money should be according to population in the districts, adding the system of provincial governments has deteriorated.
A CM and a few secretaries make decisions, he said. Former Sindh Governor Imran Ismail in address said that the establishment of small provinces and the transfer of powers to the lower level are inevitable.
“If we want to improve the lot of people, we have to give up sentimentality. All political parties have to work together to create a national agenda on new provinces and administration units.
Mayors are powerful all over the world. Here, every mayor says that money and power are not everything.
The PTI government was very popular. We also did not allow the local government system to function earlier,” he added.
MQM leader Dr Farooq Sattar said a public referendum should be held for the establishment of administrative units. The establishment of new administrative units is the solution to the problems.
The establishment of administrative units will not change the geography of the provinces.
The establishment of new administrative units will solve public problems. Administrative units will strengthen the accountability system in governance, he added.
