WASHINGTON (Web Desk) - The Iranian government remains in power, the Strait of Hormuz is largely closed and US weapons stockpiles are coming under increasing pressure, according to a report by a US newspaper, which said Washington’s position in the Middle East had also weakened.
The report said the war with Iran, which US President Donald Trump had described as a short conflict, has continued for six months with no clear signs of an end.
It added that Trump’s ability to turn the outcome of the war in Washington’s favour appeared increasingly limited.
According to the report, Iranian leaders have demonstrated that they can withstand intense US bombardment while gradually putting pressure on the capabilities of the world’s most powerful military through relatively low-cost weapons and tactics, including mines and drones.
The prolonged conflict has also placed growing strain on US military readiness, the report said.

Meanwhile, the political consequences of the war are becoming increasingly visible inside the United States, with Trump’s standing among voters reportedly taking a hit.
The report also pointed to a broader weakening of the US position in the Middle East, suggesting that the prolonged conflict has created significant military, strategic and political challenges for the Trump administration.
With the war entering its seventh month, the report said there were few indications that Washington had achieved a decisive outcome or was close to bringing the conflict to an end.
