Jamaat-e-Islami announces a nationwide strike on September 3, demanding lower petroleum prices and relief from high electricity bills.

LAHORE (Dunya News) - Jamaat-e-Islami has announced a nationwide strike on September 3 to demand a reduction in petroleum product prices.

Jamaat-e-Islami Emir Hafiz Naeem-ur-Rehman said people were taking to the streets to demand lower petroleum prices, stressing that the strike would remain completely peaceful.

He said, “Not even a flowerpot will be broken,” while emphasizing that the protest would be conducted without violence or damage to property.

Hafiz Naeem-ur-Rehman said young people knew how to organize strikes and that Jamaat-e-Islami would approach traders across the country to persuade them to participate in the protest.

He appealed to traders not to listen to government “yes-men and sycophants” and said he would personally meet traders in Lahore to mobilize support for the strike.

The Jamaat-e-Islami leader also criticized high electricity bills, saying electricity bills had become a “bomb” falling on the public.
