(Web Desk) - Bangladesh’s batting collapsed spectacularly against Australia in the second Test on Saturday, with the visitors dismissed for just 64 runs in 34 overs on the opening day.
Australia won the toss and opted to bowl first, with Mitchell Starc producing a devastating spell. The left-arm pacer claimed six wickets for just 12 runs in 10 overs, including the wicket of Shadman Islam off the very first ball of the innings.
Captain Pat Cummins took three wickets, while Josh Hazlewood claimed one.
Bangladesh’s top order struggled badly, with Shadman Islam, Tanzid Hasan, captain Najmul Hossain Shanto and Litton Das all dismissed without scoring.
Sharif Islam was Bangladesh’s top scorer with 14 runs and helped add 25 runs for the final wicket, taking the team total to 64.
Australia also faced early trouble in its first innings. By the second session, the hosts had lost three wickets for 50 runs and needed another 14 runs to draw level with Bangladesh’s first-innings total.
Bangladesh had won the opening Test by nine wickets, securing a historic victory over Australia. However, the hosts responded strongly in the second Test with a dominant bowling performance.
