Poliovirus detected in environmental samples from six Karachi districts

No poliovirus had been detected in environmental samples from the six Karachi districts in June

KARACHI (Dunya News) - Poliovirus has been detected in environmental samples collected from all six districts of Karachi, according to the National Emergency Operations Centre (NEOC) for Polio.

The NEOC said the virus was found in samples collected from Karachi Central, East, Keamari, Malir, South and West districts.

No poliovirus had been detected in environmental samples from the six Karachi districts in June, according to the authorities.

Meanwhile, poliovirus was also detected in an environmental sample from Kashmore, Sindh, in July.

Authorities said positive samples were also reported from Chaman, Dera Bugti and Quetta in Balochistan, while environmental samples from Bannu and Peshawar in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa also tested positive for the virus.

In Punjab, poliovirus had been detected in an environmental sample from Rawalpindi in July, the NEOC said.
