Urban flooding feared as heavy rain forecast across Punjab, KP

Heavy rain and thunderstorms are forecast across Islamabad, Punjab, KP, Kashmir and Gilgit-Baltistan, with urban flooding feared in low-lying areas and risks of flooding and landslides.

ISLAMABAD (Dunya News) – Heavy rain has been forecast in Islamabad, Rawalpindi, Peshawar, Mardan, Swat, Gujranwala, Lahore and several other areas today, with a risk of urban flooding in low-lying areas.

According to the Pakistan Meteorological Department, intermittent rain accompanied by thunderstorms is expected in Islamabad, Rawalpindi, Potohar, upper Punjab, Kashmir, upper and central Khyber Pakhtunkhwa and Gilgit-Baltistan. Heavy rainfall is also likely at some places.

Rain is expected in Rawalpindi, Murree, Galiyat, Attock, Chakwal, Jhelum, Gujrat, Gujranwala, Sialkot, Narowal, Lahore, Kasur and Sheikhupura. Heavy rain is particularly expected in Potohar, Gujrat, Gujranwala, Sialkot, Narowal and Lahore.

Various districts of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, particularly Mardan, Swabi, Nowshera, Peshawar, Abbottabad and Haripur, are also expected to receive rain and thunderstorms. Rain is also likely to continue in Kashmir and Gilgit-Baltistan.

The Met Office has warned of urban flooding in low-lying areas of Islamabad, Rawalpindi, Mardan, Swabi, Peshawar, Nowshera, Gujranwala, Gujrat, Sialkot and Lahore.

It has also warned of possible flooding in local streams and nullahs in Kashmir, Murree, Galiyat, Islamabad and Rawalpindi, while there is a risk of landslides in mountainous areas.
