ISLAMABAD (Dunya News) – Federal Petroleum Minister Ali Pervaiz Malik has said the price of diesel is expected to be reduced by Rs30 to Rs32 per litre soon, providing relief to consumers amid high fuel prices.
Speaking at a press conference in Islamabad alongside Information and Broadcasting Minister Atta Tarar, Ali Pervaiz Malik said the government was fully aware of the difficulties being faced by the public and was making every effort to provide relief.
“The difficult times will certainly end,” the petroleum minister said, adding that the government was working to resolve public issues and provide targeted relief.
He said the government had already provided relief through targeted subsidies and had not abandoned the people during the current difficult circumstances.
Ali Pervaiz Malik noted that many countries around the world were facing similar challenges, adding that even Russia, a major diesel-producing country, was experiencing difficulties.
Oil refineries agree to reduce diesel prices
The petroleum minister said that, on the prime minister’s instructions, the government had held two to three meetings with representatives of oil refineries to discuss fuel prices.
Following the meetings, oil refineries agreed to a significant reduction in the price of diesel, he said.
“The price of diesel will be reduced by Rs30 to Rs32 per litre,” Ali Pervaiz Malik said.
He added that a major reduction was expected soon and that the Oil and Gas Regulatory Authority (OGRA) would issue the notification regarding the price cut on Wednesday.
Atta Tarar says govt taking steps to provide relief
Speaking at the press conference, Information and Broadcasting Minister Atta Tarar said Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif had chaired an important meeting earlier in the day, attended by the petroleum minister and other relevant officials.
He said the prime minister had directed authorities to provide maximum possible relief to the public in the prevailing difficult circumstances.
Tarar said Prime Minister Shehbaz was fully aware of the hardships faced by the people and had provided subsidies even during extremely challenging circumstances.
He said oil prices had increased globally due to the ongoing war in the region, but the government was taking measures to minimise its impact on the public.
Tarar further said OGRA would announce the reduction in diesel prices and expressed hope that more positive news for the public would emerge in the coming days.
