Pakistan seeks $10bn facility from US, progress expected in Sept: FinMin

Federal Minister for Finance Muhammad Aurangzeb confirmed that Pakistan has requested a $10 billion Exchange Stabilization Facility from the U.S. Department of the Treasury

ISLAMABAD (Web Desk) — Federal Minister for Finance and Revenue Senator Muhammad Aurangzeb has confirmed that Pakistan has formally requested a $10 billion Exchange Stabilization Facility from the United States, with progress expected on the matter by September.

Speaking informally to media representatives in Islamabad, Finance Minister Muhammad Aurangzeb stated that Pakistan's application is currently under consideration with the U.S. Department of the Treasury.

He noted that the government is actively exploring multiple financial avenues and remains in discussions with institutions such as the U.S. Export-Import Bank (EXIM Bank) and the U.S. International Development Finance Corporation (DFC).

In addition, the Finance Minister highlighted ongoing efforts to restructure bilateral debt.

He explained that work is underway to extend the repayment terms of bilateral loans, with the goal of stretching the maturity period up to 10 years to reduce immediate fiscal pressures.
