KARACHI (Dunya News) – Chief Justice of the Sindh High Court Zafar Ahmed Rajput has said that no society in the world has achieved progress by keeping women subjugated.
Addressing a Women’s Law Conference in Karachi, Justice Zafar Ahmed Rajput said Pakistan had been blessed with abundant resources, adding that every member of society must play a role in the country’s development and prosperity.
He said women held a special status in Islam and there should be no discrimination between daughters and sons.
The chief justice said he had been blessed with three daughters, all of whom had studied at the same educational institution as their brother.
He stressed that daughters should be provided with the same opportunities and rights as sons, saying society could not achieve genuine progress without women’s education and empowerment.
Justice Zafar Ahmed Rajput said Pakistan was rich in both natural and human resources, adding that the need of the hour was to utilise these resources effectively and provide equal opportunities for every citizen to progress.
He said women’s rights were part of human rights under the Constitution and law, while human rights held fundamental importance in every society.
The chief justice said the Constitution prohibited discrimination against any citizen on the basis of gender and guaranteed equal rights to all citizens.
He added that providing women with equal rights, education and opportunities for advancement was a shared responsibility of the state and society.
Justice Zafar Ahmed Rajput stressed that women must be given opportunities to play a full role in all spheres of national life to build a strong and developed society.
