ISLAMABAD (Dunya News) – Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif has directed the National Disaster Management Authority (NDMA) to use all available resources to provide relief and assistance to people affected by floods following heavy monsoon rains.
The prime minister issued the directives during a meeting with NDMA Chairman Lieutenant General Inam Haider Malik, who briefed him on the country’s weather conditions and the flood situation caused by the ongoing monsoon spell.
Shehbaz Sharif instructed the NDMA to maintain close and effective coordination with provincial authorities and Provincial Disaster Management Authorities (PDMAs) to ensure timely assistance to affected communities.
The prime minister also appreciated the use of artificial intelligence and modern technology at the National Emergencies Operations Centre to monitor and respond to emergencies.
During the meeting, the NDMA chairman briefed the prime minister on relief operations in flood-affected areas and measures being taken for the rehabilitation of affected people.
He said relief activities would continue in flood-hit areas of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, Gilgit-Baltistan and Azad Jammu and Kashmir with the support of the federal government.
