QUETTA (Dunya News) – Six police personnel were injured when armed assailants opened fire on the convoy of Balochistan Interior Minister Mir Zia Langau in Mastung, while the provincial minister remained safe in the attack.
According to Mastung police, the interior minister’s convoy was travelling from Kalat to Quetta when armed men ambushed it at Guru in the Khadkocha area of Mastung district and opened fire. Six police personnel were injured in the exchange of fire.
Police said the attackers fled the scene after the incident, while an operation is underway to trace and apprehend them.
Balochistan Home Affairs Assistant Babar Yousafzai said the exchange of fire between the armed assailants and police continued for 20 minutes. He said the police personnel demonstrated bravery and responded strongly to the attack.
Sana Malik, emergency in-charge at Nawab Ghous Bakhsh Raisani Hospital in Mastung, said six injured people were brought to the hospital. Three of them were later shifted to Quetta for further treatment.
Following the incident, Balochistan Interior Minister Zia Langau said in a statement issued to the media that such cowardly attacks would not lower his morale, adding that he could not be intimidated by such "firecrackers."
