TEHRAN (Dunya News) – Iran has denied reports that it has agreed to extend a ceasefire with the United States, saying no talks are currently underway on extending the truce.
An Iranian official told an international news agency that there had been no negotiations with Washington over a ceasefire extension. The official said there was no scheduled start date for a ceasefire, making the question of extending it irrelevant.
The Iranian official also accused the United States of violating the agreement 48 hours after it was reached and called on Washington to fulfil its commitments under the memorandum of understanding.
“There has been no progress so far” regarding the ceasefire, the official said.
Earlier, a Turkish news agency reported that Iran and the US had agreed to extend their 60-day ceasefire under the Islamabad memorandum of understanding.
According to the report, the current ceasefire was due to expire on August 17, with both sides allegedly agreeing to extend it.
The conflicting claims have added uncertainty over the status of the Iran-US truce and ongoing diplomatic efforts.
