Former captain Hanif Muhammad holds countless records and many awards. Hanif Muhammad's name is also listed in the ICC Hall of Fame. Hanif Muhammad, who scored the first triple century for Pakistan, was also awarded the Presidential Medal of Excellence.
Born on December 21, 1934 in Junagadh, United India, Hanif Muhammad's brothers Wazir Muhammad, Raees Muhammad, Mushtaq Muhammad and Sadiq Muhammad also represented Pakistan in Test cricket. His mother Ameer Bibi also had a deep passion for sports and was also the United India Women's Badminton Champion.
Hanif Muhammad, who played his first Test against India in 1952, scored 3,915 runs in 97 innings of 55 Test matches with the help of 12 centuries and 15 fifties. He hit only two sixes in Test cricket and also had the honor of taking one Test wicket.
Hanif Muhammad, who scored the first triple century for Pakistan, became the first cricketer to remain on the field for almost all five days of a Test match, playing a historic innings of 337 runs in the Bridgetown Test against the West Indies in January 1958.
After Pakistan were bundled out for 106 in response to West Indies' first innings' 579, he remained at the crease for 970 minutes, not only playing a memorable innings but also saving his team from certain defeat.
Hanif Muhammad broke the record of Sir Don Bradman of the West Indies by scoring 499 runs in a first-class match against Bahawalpur while playing for Karachi in 1959. His record stood until 1994, when it was broken by Brian Lara of the West Indies.
Hanif Muhammad died in Karachi on August 11, 2016, after a long illness. After his death, Google paid tribute to him through its Doodle, while he was also inducted into the ICC Cricket Hall of Fame.
