Section 144 imposed at Murree's Mall Road, GPO Chowk ahead of Independence Day

Updated on:

Section 144 has been imposed at Murree’s Mall Road and GPO Chowk until August 16 amid expected Independence Day tourist crowds.

MURREE (Dunya News) - Section 144 has been imposed at Mall Road and GPO Chowk in Murree from August 10 to August 16 to maintain law and order and prevent any untoward incident during Independence Day celebrations.

Deputy Commissioner Murree Agha Zaheer Abbas Shirazi issued the notification on the recommendation of the District Police Officer Murree.

Under the restrictions, only tourist families will be allowed to enter Mall Road and GPO Chowk. Peddlers and hawkers have been permitted to accompany tourists to other recreational areas of Murree.

The notification states that tourists will have unrestricted access to other recreational spots across Murree, except Mall Road, where special restrictions have been imposed.

District authorities said a large influx of tourists was expected during Independence Day celebrations. The measures have therefore been introduced to control crowds at sensitive locations, particularly Mall Road, and maintain peace and order.

Police and the district administration have made comprehensive security arrangements to prevent any untoward incident. Tourists have been urged to follow administrative instructions and enjoy other attractions, including Patriata, Kashmir Point, the chairlift and other scenic areas.
