ISLAMABAD (Dunya News) - Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Chief Minister Sohail Afridi has warned that his party would launch a nationwide protest if a meeting with PTI founder Imran Khan is not allowed on Thursday.
Addressing a press conference at the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa House in Islamabad alongside Salman Akram Raja and other party leaders, Afridi said, “If we are not allowed to meet the PTI founder on Thursday, we will turn the entire Pakistan into D-Chowk at 10pm.”
He said all parliamentarians would go to Adiala Jail on Thursday, while lawmakers would stage a sit-in outside the Supreme Court on Tuesday.
Afridi said Imran Khan's family had guaranteed that no political discussion would take place during the meeting and urged the authorities to accept the assurance and allow the family to see him.
The KP chief minister said the party's primary demand was that Imran Khan receive proper medical treatment. He also expressed concern over the health of Imran Khan and his wife, Bushra Bibi.
Afridi alleged that Imran Khan had effectively been “abducted” rather than arrested and claimed that he was in good health when taken to Adiala Jail.
He held the government, judiciary and prison administration responsible for Khan's health condition, alleging that the relevant institutions were acting together.
The KP chief minister also warned of growing frustration among young people, saying unemployment and political uncertainty were fueling anger among the country's youth.
He claimed that a large number of young people were prepared to come out in protest and said the situation could become difficult to control.
Afridi further claimed that September 27 would see a nationwide mobilisation, warning that authorities would have little opportunity to contain the situation once people took to the streets.
