MUZAFFARABAD (Dunya News) - Azad Jammu and Kashmir Inspector General of Police Capt. (retd.) Liaquat Ali Malik has accused a banned committee of attempting to create unrest through what he described as anti-state propaganda, while calling for a fact-based assessment of the events surrounding the death of police officer Aqib.
Addressing a ceremony in Muzaffarabad to mark Police Martyrs’ Day, the AJK police chief alleged that members of the banned organisation abducted family members who had arrived to receive Aqib’s body.
He claimed that the family members were subjected to violence and humiliation and that videos of the alleged incident were recorded. According to the police chief, Aqib sustained critical injuries and died while being transported in an ambulance, while his body was allegedly withheld for four days.
Capt. (retd.) Malik questioned what he described as a contradictory narrative surrounding the incident, asking whether those who allegedly attacked police officers should be portrayed as victims while those protecting public safety were labelled aggressors.

He said the reality of the banned committee could be better understood by speaking to Aqib’s father and other family members who, he alleged, had directly experienced the incident.
The police chief further alleged that the organisation was attempting to exploit the incident to spread unrest in Azad Jammu and Kashmir.
He maintained that the alleged campaign of anti-state propaganda had failed and stressed that the circumstances surrounding Aqib’s death should be assessed on the basis of verified facts rather than competing narratives.
