Nepra eases approval process for small-scale solar connections

Updated on:

Nepra removed prior approval requirements for solar systems up to 25 kilowatts, authorising DISCOs to approve eligible installations directly.

ISLAMABAD (Dunya News) - The National Electric Power Regulatory Authority (Nepra) has amended the Solar Regulations 2026, removing the requirement for prior regulatory approval for small-scale solar power systems.

According to a new notification issued by the regulator, consumers installing solar systems with a generation capacity of up to 25 kilowatts will no longer be required to obtain prior approval from Nepra.

Under the revised regulations, the authority to approve such solar connections has been delegated directly to the relevant electricity distribution companies (DISCOs).

The amendment is aimed at simplifying the approval process for small-scale solar users by eliminating the requirement to seek Nepra's prior permission.
