LAHORE (Dunya News) – Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz Sharif chaired a meeting of the provincial cabinet, which approved a series of major decisions relating to local government elections, wheat procurement, health, education, transport, local governance and various development initiatives across the province.
The cabinet approved Rs12.52 billion in funds for the conduct of local government elections in Punjab. It also gave the green light for the purchase of one million metric tonnes of wheat from PASSCO at a rate of Rs4,150 per 40 kilograms.
During the meeting, the cabinet approved the provision of 5,000 laptops to the government of Azad Jammu and Kashmir and sanctioned a Rs3 billion equity injection into the Bank of Punjab.
The provincial cabinet also approved the budget for the Chief Minister Health and Population initiatives, supplementary funding for the Apni Chhat Apna Ghar and Apna Khet Apna Rozgar programmes, and the project for the provision of electric buses in various districts of Punjab.
The meeting also endorsed administrative decisions related to traffic enforcement and law and order on the Rawalpindi Ring Road, a summary concerning the Punjab Water and Sanitation Authority Fund, and measures aimed at improving the Water and Sanitation Agencies in Lahore and Faisalabad.
The cabinet further approved amendments to the Punjab Industries Ordinance 2026, the Punjab Local Government (Birth and Death Registration) Rules 2024, the draft Punjab Assets Management Authority Ordinance 2026, and the establishment of the Maryam Nawaz Sharif Medical College and Teaching Hospital in Mianwali.
It also approved the establishment of the Lahore Heritage Area Revival Board and the appointment of its chairman, eased the ban on recruitment in various government institutions, and cleared multiple summaries for new recruitments. In addition, the cabinet approved the supply of anti-rabies vaccines to the Balochistan government, a summary regarding restrictions against provocative speakers, new child labour rules in Punjab, and legal amendments related to the Motor Vehicle Scrappage and Buy-Back Programme.
Furthermore, the provincial cabinet approved appointments and nominations to various boards and authorities, including the Punjab Tourism and Heritage Authority.
