PORT OF SPAIN (Dunya News) - Pakistan opener Abdullah Shafique etched his name in the history books with a brilliant unbeaten 160 against the West Indies in the second Test at Queen’s Park Oval, ending a 49-year wait for Pakistan.
Shafique became the first Pakistani batter since Majid Khan in 1977 to score more than 150 runs in a Test match against the West Indies in the Caribbean. Majid Khan had scored 167 in Guyana during Pakistan’s 1977 tour.
The right-hander produced a composed innings on the third day of the second ICC World Test Championship match at Queen’s Park Oval, guiding Pakistan to a strong position after the visitors had bowled West Indies out for 344 in their first innings.
Shafique's unbeaten 160 included 15 fours and three sixes, showcasing a combination of patience and attacking strokeplay.
With the landmark innings, Shafique became only the fifth Pakistani batter to score 150 or more in a Test against the West Indies in the Caribbean.
The previous Pakistani batters to achieve the feat were Hanif Mohammad (337), Wazir Mohammad (189), Majid Khan (167) and Saeed Ahmed (150), according to the statistical record accompanying the match.
