SAN FRANCISCO (Reuters) – Nvidia will make a $5 billion equity investment in artificial intelligence startup Safe Superintelligence (SSI) as part of a strategic partnership with the company co-founded by former OpenAI chief scientist Ilya Sutskever, according to a person familiar with the agreement.
The two companies announced the partnership on Monday but did not disclose the financial terms. Reuters, however, reported that Nvidia's investment will total $5 billion.
According to the companies, the funding will significantly expand SSI's computing resources as it develops advanced artificial intelligence systems.
The agreement also gives Safe Superintelligence access to Nvidia's next-generation Vera Rubin AI hardware, strengthening the startup's computing capabilities for future research and development.
Sources familiar with the matter told Reuters that the strategic partnership was negotiated and finalised within a matter of weeks, underscoring Nvidia's continued investment in leading AI startups as competition in the artificial intelligence sector intensifies.
