TEHRAN (Dunya News) – Iran’s Foreign Ministry has said that Tehran did not request negotiations with the United States to end the war, asserting that decisions regarding war and peace will be made by Iran itself.
During a press briefing, Iranian Foreign Ministry spokesperson Ismail Baghaei said Iran would never allow the United States to determine the timing of war or peace. He claimed that after attacking Iran, Washington had expected Tehran to surrender within three days, but months later the US itself was facing difficulties.
Baghaei said the United States returns to the negotiating table whenever global energy prices begin to rise. He also accused Israel of creating obstacles for Middle Eastern countries in acquiring advanced technology, adding that every country has the right to use nuclear energy for peaceful purposes.
He said Iran had only exercised its legal rights, while describing Ukrainian attacks on Iranian commercial vessels in the Caspian Sea as violations of international law. Baghaei stated that Iran has the right to respond to such attacks and added that Tehran had no intention of intervening since the beginning of the Russia-Ukraine war.
The Iranian spokesperson said all necessary measures would be taken to protect national security and interests. He alleged that some countries in the region were participating in the war alongside the United States and said Washington was primarily responsible for military aggression against Iran.
Baghaei expressed hope that relevant regional countries would avoid further cooperation with the US in actions against Iran. He warned that any move increasing tensions in the region would make the involved parties responsible for its consequences.
The Iranian Foreign Ministry spokesperson also said that talks between Iran and Oman regarding the management of the Strait of Hormuz were held on Friday and Saturday, with discussions focusing on improving the navigation system.
He stated that there has been no change in the current situation of the Strait of Hormuz and that it remains closed. Baghaei clarified that the ongoing talks between Iran and Oman have no connection with the United States and are limited to navigation management in the Strait of Hormuz and regional matters.
