WASHINGTON (Web Desk) - US Ambassador to the United Nations Mike Waltz said President Donald Trump has paused military strikes against Iran to create additional room for diplomacy and give Tehran an opportunity to return to negotiations.
Speaking to US media, Waltz said President Trump wants to allow more time for talks but did not provide further details about the nature or scope of any potential negotiations.
According to news reports, President Trump ordered a halt to US military operations against Iran after 13 consecutive days of strikes.
However, it remains unclear whether the pause is temporary or marks the beginning of a broader ceasefire.
Media reports said concerns about escalating the conflict were raised during a high-level meeting at the White House by Vice President JD Vance and Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff General Dan Caine.
According to New York Times, General Caine privately warned that while large-scale military operations against Iran could be resumed, doing so could dangerously deplete US Central Command's stockpile of interceptor missiles.
US media also reported that the pause in strikes coincided with a visit to Iran by Omani officials.
According to the reports, the Omani delegation arrived in Tehran in an effort to facilitate potential talks between the two sides.
