LAHORE (Dunya News) – A United States delegation visited some of Lahore's most celebrated historical landmarks, including the mausoleum of national poet and philosopher Allama Muhammad Iqbal, as part of a cultural and heritage tour of the city.
The visit focused on introducing the delegation to Lahore's centuries-old architectural legacy, cultural identity and tourism attractions. Officials from the Walled City of Lahore Authority accompanied the delegation throughout the programme and provided detailed briefings at every stop.
The delegation began its visit by paying respects at the mausoleum of Allama Muhammad Iqbal, where members offered tribute to the renowned philosopher, poet and thinker, widely regarded as the Poet of the East. The visit formed an important part of the delegation's cultural itinerary, highlighting Iqbal's enduring influence on the region's intellectual and literary heritage.
The delegation then toured the historic Lahore Fort, exploring one of the finest surviving examples of Mughal architecture and cultural heritage in South Asia. During the visit, members examined several landmark sections of the fort, including Hazuri Bagh, Diwan-e-Aam and Diwan-e-Khas. They also visited the historic Sheesh Mahal, the iconic Alamgiri Gate and the renowned Picture Wall, while receiving comprehensive briefings on the site's historical significance, architectural features and cultural value.
The tour continued at the world-famous Badshahi Mosque, where the delegation expressed keen interest in the monument's architectural brilliance, historical background and religious significance. Officials explained the mosque's place among Lahore's most treasured landmarks and its importance in the city's rich cultural landscape.
The delegation also visited several other heritage and cultural sites across Lahore as part of the programme designed to familiarise visitors with the city's historic identity and tourism potential.
Director General of the Walled City of Lahore Authority Najam-ul-Saqib welcomed the delegation and delivered briefings at different locations. Senior officials of the authority remained with the visitors throughout the tour, providing insights into Lahore's preserved heritage, restoration projects and ongoing conservation initiatives.
Members of the US delegation praised the preservation of Lahore's historic monuments, the restoration work carried out at key sites and the measures taken to safeguard the city's cultural heritage.
According to the Walled City of Lahore Authority, visits of this nature help showcase Pakistan's historic heritage to an international audience while supporting the promotion of cultural tourism.
