(Web Desk) - President Donald Trump set aside plans for a major escalation against Iran, at least for now, amid concerns that expanded military operations could further deplete US air defence supplies in the Middle East, The New York Times reported on Saturday.
The report said the Pentagon’s stockpile of Patriot missile interceptors and other air defense munitions has become a key factor in discussions over whether to resume broader combat operations.
US Joint Chiefs of Staff Chairman Gen Dan Caine privately warned that resuming major combat operations against Iran is possible but could dangerously deplete US air defence supplies in the Middle East, The New York Times reported.
According to the report, Caine told officials that expanded operations could reduce the availability of Patriot missile interceptors and other air defense systems used by US Central Command.
The concerns were among factors considered by President Donald Trump and senior advisers as they weighed further escalation, the newspaper said.
