KARACHI (Web Desk) – Two ancient-style statues have been discovered during restoration work at Karachi's historic Lee Market, prompting authorities to seek expert archaeological examination of the finds.
Karachi Mayor Murtaza Wahab said the discovery was made during rehabilitation work in the city's Old City Area, revealing the possible presence of archaeological remains at the historic site.
He said the recovered statues have been secured and will be examined by archaeology experts to determine their age, origin and historical significance.
The mayor added that complete documentation and records of the discovered artefacts would be prepared to help preserve the city's historical heritage.
According to Wahab, the Karachi Metropolitan Corporation (KMC) is committed to protecting the city's cultural and historical assets, and the recovered objects will undergo scientific analysis.
He also said excavation work at Lee Market is now being carried out with extra caution in view of the archaeological discovery.
