TEHRAN (Dunya News) – Iran has rejected allegations of harassing and mistreating two employees of the French Embassy, saying the individuals were only briefly questioned during a security operation before being released.
Iranian Foreign Ministry spokesman Mohammad Tanhai said the two employees attended an event on Sunday where several individuals wanted in connection with security-related offences were also present. He said security personnel briefly questioned the embassy employees as part of the operation.
According to the Foreign Ministry, documents linked to activities against national security were recovered from the location, and an investigation into the matter is continuing.
The ministry said that once security officials learned the two individuals were employees of the French Embassy, they were handed over to the diplomatic police.
It added that following contact with the French ambassador, both employees were subsequently released and returned to the French Embassy.
