LAHORE (Dunya News) – A strong spell of monsoon rains continues across Lahore and several districts of Punjab, with the Pakistan Meteorological Department (PMD) forecasting intermittent rainfall throughout the day. The ongoing showers have significantly reduced heat and humidity across the region.
According to the PMD, the minimum temperature during the next 24 hours is expected to remain 27 degrees Celsius, while the maximum temperature may reach 32 degrees Celsius. The current temperature in Lahore was recorded at 28 degrees Celsius, with wind speed measured at 11 kilometres per hour and humidity at 83 percent.
The PMD has forecast rain accompanied by thunderstorms, with heavy downpours expected at isolated places in Punjab, Islamabad, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, northeastern Balochistan, Azad Jammu and Kashmir, and Gilgit-Baltistan on Friday.
The department said monsoon currents from the Arabian Sea and the Bay of Bengal are affecting the upper parts of the country, while a westerly weather system is also influencing conditions. As a result, rain is expected to continue in the upper and central regions.
Intermittent rainfall is forecast for Islamabad, Rawalpindi, Lahore, Gujranwala, Sialkot, Narowal, Sheikhupura, Faisalabad, Sargodha, Murree, Galiyat, Jhelum, Attock and Chakwal, along with several other districts of Punjab. Thunderstorms and rain are also expected in Peshawar, Mardan, Swabi, Nowshera, Abbottabad, Mansehra, Swat, Dir, Chitral, Kohistan and other upper areas of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa.
Rain is also likely to persist in Azad Jammu and Kashmir and Gilgit-Baltistan, while isolated showers are expected in Quetta, Ziarat, Zhob, Musa Khel, Barkhan and adjoining areas of northeastern Balochistan. Upper and southeastern parts of Sindh may receive rain at a few locations, although hot and humid weather is expected to prevail across most of the province.
The PMD warned that heavy rainfall in some areas could trigger urban flooding, flash floods in seasonal streams and landslides in mountainous regions. Relevant authorities have been advised to take precautionary measures, while citizens, particularly tourists and those travelling to hilly areas, have been urged to remain cautious.
Meanwhile, the National and Provincial Disaster Management Authorities have also directed local administrations to stay on alert to respond promptly to any emergency. Citizens have been advised to avoid unnecessary travel during heavy rain, windstorms and thunderstorms and to follow official weather advisories.
