The Punjab government has formally requested 1 million metric tonnes of wheat from the federal government through PASSCO to maintain market supply and stabilise prices.
LAHORE (Dunya News) - The Punjab government has formally approached the federal government to obtain 1 million metric tonnes of wheat from the Pakistan Agricultural Storage and Services Corporation (PASSCO) to ensure stable supplies and prices in the market.
Following approval from the Punjab cabinet, the provincial government has sent an official request to the Ministry of National Food Security and Research seeking additional wheat allocation.
Officials said Punjab will retain approval to purchase the previously sanctioned 200,000 metric tonnes of wheat, while requesting an additional 800,000 metric tonnes from PASSCO.
According to the officials, PASSCO already holds 200,000 metric tonnes of wheat allocated for Punjab.
If the additional request is approved, the province's total allocation will reach 1 million metric tonnes.
The provincial government said the move is aimed at ensuring sufficient wheat availability, preventing supply shortages and helping stabilise wheat prices across the province.
