(Web Desk) - Veteran actor Javed Sheikh has revealed that he did not want to accept any payment for his role in the 2007 Bollywood hit Om Shanti Om. He said it was a great honour to play Shah Rukh Khan's father and work in such a major film.
In a recent interview, Sheikh recalled his time on the film's set and praised both Shah Rukh Khan and director Farah Khan for treating him with great respect. He said they shared a warm friendship during filming and that Shah Rukh looked after him throughout the project.
Speaking about his fee, Sheikh said he told the filmmakers, "Money? I won't take it." He explained that he felt proud to be chosen as a Pakistani actor for such an important role, so payment was not his priority. He even suggested accepting just one rupee as a symbolic amount. However, Farah Khan and Shah Rukh Khan refused and insisted on paying him a proper fee as a gesture of respect.
Sheikh also spoke about his early career and the challenges he faced before becoming successful. He said his father was very strict and did not support his dream of becoming an actor. As a young man, he would secretly visit Radio Pakistan because he loved performing. His father even tore up one of his shirts after accusing him of wanting to become a film hero.
Although his father later celebrated his success, he also became discouraged whenever Sheikh's films failed. To reassure his family, Sheikh worked other jobs while continuing to pursue acting.
After his debut film Dhamaka (1974) failed, Sheikh struggled for several years. He later faced another major setback when producers of Bivi Ho To Aisi considered replacing him because distributors believed his earlier flops would hurt the film's business. Sheikh said the experience left him heartbroken.
His career finally turned around with the popular television drama Ankahi, which brought him recognition in both Pakistan and India.
Looking back on his journey, Sheikh said he always focused on improving himself instead of comparing himself to others. He added that he never let jealousy affect his career and remained committed to working hard.
