MUZAFFARABAD (Dunya News) – The first phase of the general election process in Azad Jammu and Kashmir (AJK), involving voting by government employees, has been completed successfully, with 24,040 employees casting their votes across eight districts of the region.
According to election officials, polling for government employees was held on July 20 from 8am to 5pm in a peaceful environment. Authorities said the process was completed in a transparent and organized manner.
Official figures showed that 4,278 votes were cast across four Legislative Assembly constituencies in two districts of Rawalakot Division. In Mirpur Division, 12,041 government employees voted across 13 assembly constituencies in three districts. Meanwhile, 7,721 votes were recorded across nine assembly constituencies in three districts of Muzaffarabad Division.
After the completion of polling, sealed ballot boxes and other election materials were handed over to the relevant returning officers according to the prescribed procedures. The counting of these votes and announcement of official results will be made on the scheduled polling day of the general elections.
Political parties also set up election camps in various constituencies during the polling process to assist voters.
Election experts described the successful completion of the initial phase as a positive step toward holding peaceful and organized general elections in AJK.
