Qatar suspends most maritime activities, condemns Iranian attacks

Updated on:

Qatar has suspended most maritime activities indefinitely amid regional tensions, while strongly condemning Iranian attacks as violations of its sovereignty and international law.

DOHA (Dunya News) – Qatar has suspended most maritime activities across the country until further notice amid escalating regional tensions, while strongly condemning recent Iranian attacks as a violation of its sovereignty and international law.

In a statement, Qatar's Ministry of Transport said the precautionary measures were introduced to safeguard public safety and would remain in force until further notice.

Under the restrictions, the movement of recreational boats, fishing vessels, jet skis and other small marine craft has been suspended with immediate effect.

The ministry clarified that commercial and international vessels operating under international maritime agreements are exempt from the restrictions and may continue their operations in accordance with applicable laws and regulations.

Authorities urged citizens, residents and boat owners to comply fully with official directives and rely only on government sources for updates regarding the evolving security situation.

Separately, Qatar's Ministry of Foreign Affairs issued a strong condemnation of the Iranian attacks, describing them as a blatant violation of Qatar's sovereignty, territorial integrity and international law.

The ministry said the attacks posed a serious threat to regional peace and stability and risked further escalating tensions across the Gulf.

Qatar also held Iran fully responsible for the consequences of the attacks, stressing that the country reserves the right to take appropriate measures to protect its national security and interests in accordance with international law.

At the same time, Doha reiterated its call for an immediate ceasefire, de-escalation and the resumption of diplomatic dialogue to prevent further instability in the region.

Political analysts say the heightened tensions around the Strait of Hormuz and the wider Gulf have raised concerns over maritime security, energy supplies and regional stability, prompting Gulf states to strengthen precautionary measures.
