MUZAFFARABAD (Dunya News) – The All Parties Hurriyat Conference (APHC) has announced that Kashmir Martyrs' Day will be observed on July 13 with a rally and a public gathering to pay tribute to those who lost their lives during the Kashmir freedom movement.
Addressing a joint press conference in Muzaffarabad, APHC Convener Ghulam Muhammad Safi, Muzaffarabad Mayor Sikandar Gilani, General Secretary Advocate Pervez Ahmad, Liberation Cell Director Sajjad Latif, Muhajireen Representative Forum leader Ghulam Hassan Butt and other leaders outlined the programme for the event.
Safi said July 13, 1931 marked the beginning of the Kashmir freedom movement, recalling that 22 Kashmiris were martyred while completing the Azan on that day.
He said a rally would be held in honour of the martyrs, followed by a public gathering at Upper Adda Lal Chowk, where thousands of people are expected to participate.
The APHC leaders said Kashmiris in Indian-administered Jammu and Kashmir continue to make sacrifices for their cause and noted that the day had been observed there in previous years. They added that Kashmir Martyrs' Day would also be commemorated in Azad Jammu and Kashmir with due solemnity.
The leaders also praised the efforts of Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif and Field Marshal Syed Asim Munir to promote peace between Iran and the United States, while reaffirming that the Kashmiris' struggle for freedom from India would continue.
