Pakistan, Saudi Arabia call for restraint amid rising regional tensions

ISLAMABAD (Dunya News) - Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Ishaq Dar on Saturday held a telephonic conversation with Foreign Minister of Saudi Arabia, Prince Faisal bin Farhan Al Saud, to exchange views on recent developments in the region.

The two leaders expressed deep concern over the escalation in the situation despite the signing of the Islamabad MoU between the United States and Iran last month.

They agreed that the renewed conflict serves no one's interest and undermines efforts toward regional peace and stability.

The Deputy Prime Minister reaffirmed Pakistan's call on all parties to exercise maximum restraint and allow mediation efforts the necessary time and space to achieve a peaceful and meaningful outcome.

The Saudi foreign minister shared the Kingdom's perspective on ongoing diplomatic efforts and emphasized the importance of de-escalation and continued dialogue.

The two leaders also agreed to remain in close contact.

Earlier, Ishaq Dar held telephone conversation with Maldives Foreign Minister Dr Ariuthsham Adam to discuss bilateral relations, regional cooperation and recent international developments.

According to the Foreign Office spokesperson, the two leaders reviewed Pakistan-Maldives relations, ongoing cooperation and issues of mutual interest at the regional and global levels.

During the conversation, Ishaq Dar congratulated Dr Ariuthsham Adam on the upcoming celebrations marking the 61st Independence Day of the Maldives.

The two foreign ministers also exchanged views on recent developments in the region and around the world.
