NEW YORK (Dunya News) – Pakistan has called for restraint, sustained dialogue and diplomatic engagement to ease rising regional tensions during a United Nations Security Council meeting on the situation in Iran.
Addressing the Security Council, Pakistan's Permanent Representative to the United Nations, Ambassador Asim Iftikhar Ahmad, expressed concern over the recent escalation, saying growing tensions in the region serve no one's interests and that every effort should be made to bring the parties back to the negotiating table.
He stressed that diplomacy and sustained negotiations remain the only viable path to achieving a peaceful and lasting resolution of disputed issues, while urging all sides to exercise patience and avoid actions that could further undermine regional peace and stability.
The ambassador said Pakistan remains committed to constructive diplomatic efforts aimed at de-escalation, securing a ceasefire and promoting lasting regional stability.
Ambassador Asim Iftikhar Ahmad also urged all parties to refrain from statements or actions that could create misunderstandings during sensitive negotiations, emphasizing that efforts should remain focused on the effective implementation of the Islamabad Memorandum of Understanding, which he described as a roadmap for resolving outstanding issues through dialogue.
