According to Arab media reports, Sheikh Mohammad Hussein was arrested in Jerusalem immediately after leading Friday prayers

JERUSALEM (Dunya News) - Israeli forces have detained Sheikh Mohammad Hussein, the preacher of Al-Aqsa Mosque, as Israeli security operations continue in the occupied Palestinian territories.

According to Arab media reports, Sheikh Mohammad Hussein was arrested in Jerusalem immediately after leading Friday prayers.

Authorities have not yet disclosed the reasons for his detention or the location to which he was taken.

The Palestinian news agency WAFA also confirmed the arrest of the senior Islamic cleric.

The incident has sparked concern among Palestinian circles, with many expressing alarm over the detention of the prominent religious figure amid ongoing tensions in Jerusalem.

Earlier, Israeli airstrikes and gunfire killed at least seven Palestinians, including two children, aged 10 and 6, in the Gaza Strip.

Medics said an Israeli airstrike killed one person near a school in Gaza City. Twelve people were wounded in the two incidents.

Another Israeli airstrike hit a tent for displaced people in the Mawasi area in Khan Younis, in the south of the enclave, killing at least four people including a 10-year-old child.

The Israeli military didn't immediately comment on any of those incidents.

Israel has repeatedly carried out strikes in Gaza since a US-mediated ceasefire with Hamas was reached last October.
