Senate committee approves bill granting former parliamentarians, spouses and dependent children under 28 free official blue passports.

ISLAMABAD (Web Desk) – The Senate Standing Committee on Interior has approved a bill to grant free official (blue) passports to former members of parliament, their spouses and dependent children.

The bill, titled The Members of Parliament (Salaries and Allowances) (Amendment) Act, 2026, was presented by Senator Abdul Qadir during the committee meeting and received the panel's approval.

According to the proposed amendment, former members of parliament will be entitled to free official blue passports. Their spouses will also qualify for the facility, while dependent children under the age of 28 will be eligible to receive free blue passports.

The statement of objects and reasons accompanying the bill notes that retired federal secretaries and their families already enjoy this privilege. It argues that former parliamentarians should be granted the same status and benefits as retired federal secretaries.

The bill will now move forward in the legislative process for further consideration before it can become law.
