KARACHI (Dunya News) – An Additional District and Sessions Court has delivered its verdict in the murder case of television anchor Mureed Abbas and Khizar Hayat, nearly seven years after the case was filed.
The court awarded Atif Zaman double death sentences after convicting him of the murders of Mureed Abbas and Khizar Hayat. It also issued permanent arrest warrants for absconding co-accused Adil Zaman.
According to the prosecution, Mureed Abbas and Khizar Hayat were killed on July 9, 2019. A case was registered against Atif Zaman and Adil Zaman at Darakhshan Police Station.
The prosecution said the two victims were killed over a business dispute involving Atif Zaman and his brother, Adil Zaman.
According to the prosecution, Adil Zaman absconded after the Supreme Court rejected his bail application. The trial court had already declared him a proclaimed offender.
