(Dunya News) - United Nations Secretary-General António Guterres praised Pakistan's efforts to promote regional and international peace during a meeting with Interior Minister Mohsin Naqvi on the sidelines of the fifth United Nations Chiefs of Police Summit (UNCOPS 2026) in New York.
The two leaders discussed regional and global developments, including Pakistan's role in facilitating dialogue between the United States and Iran, as well as its longstanding commitment to peace and stability. During the meeting, Guterres acknowledged and appreciated Pakistan's contributions toward peacebuilding.
On the sidelines of the summit, Naqvi also met with Russian Interior Minister Vladimir Alexandrovich Kolokoltsev. The two officials explored ways to strengthen bilateral cooperation in counterterrorism, counter-narcotics, cybercrime prevention, and law enforcement training.
The discussions also covered plans for joint police exercises and coordinated efforts against terrorist networks operating across the region, particularly in Afghanistan. Both countries agreed to sign a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) to institutionalize security cooperation, while Naqvi extended an invitation to his Russian counterpart to visit Pakistan.
