ZIARAT (Dunya News) - At least nine police personnel were martyred after terrorists launched an attack on a police checkpost in Balochistan's Ziarat district, officials said on Tuesday.

According to the Ziarat Superintendent of Police (SP), the attack targeted a police checkpost in the Kach Mangi Phase III area. The assailants opened fire on the post, resulting in the martyrdom of nine police officials.

The martyred personnel include two station house officers (SHOs) — Muhammad Hussain, SHO Mangi, and Sohbat Khan, SHO Kowas — along with seven other police officers.

The SP said an intense exchange of gunfire between the terrorists and police continued throughout the night before the attack claimed the lives of the officers.

The bodies of the fallen personnel have been shifted to the District Headquarters (DHQ) Hospital in Ziarat for legal formalities.

Following the attack, security has been tightened across the area, with additional contingents of police and security forces deployed to maintain law and order.

Police officials said a search and clearance operation is underway to trace the attackers and secure the surrounding area, adding that the sacrifices of the martyred personnel will not go in vain.
