Fake videos created using artificial intelligence (AI) had started spreading online, wrongly claiming that Wasim Akram had passed away after suffering a heart attack. The videos quickly caught the attention of fans and caused confusion and concern.
To prove that the news was completely false, Shaniera shared a short video on her Instagram account. In the video, Wasim Akram can be seen working out at the gym and looking healthy.
Along with the video, she wrote, "In response to the FAKE news and AI videos circulating, I just took this video for you and as you can see he is in the gym and seems he’s ok!"
The rumour became popular after an AI-generated video appeared online showing former cricketer Shoaib Akhtar falsely announcing Wasim Akram's death.
In the fake clip, the AI version of Akhtar claimed that Akram had died from a heart attack.
Many fans thanked Shaniera for clearing up the rumors. They also criticised the misuse of AI technology, saying that creating fake videos for views and money is harmful and irresponsible. The incident highlights the growing need to verify information before believing or sharing it on social media.
