AJK Police reject social media claims of action against Rawalakot protesters

AJK Police deny reports of shelling and firing at Rawalakot protest, calling viral social media claims false and misleading.

MUZAFFARABAD (Dunya News) – The Azad Jammu and Kashmir (AJK) Police have rejected social media reports alleging that law enforcement personnel used force, shelling and gunfire against protesters in Rawalakot, describing the claims as false and misleading.

In a statement, the spokesperson for the Inspector General of AJK Police said certain elements were running what he described as a coordinated social media campaign alleging police attacks, shelling and firing against protesters. He maintained that no operation had been carried out against the sit-in at Drek Eidgah.

The spokesperson alleged that some individuals were circulating old videos and presenting them as recent footage in an attempt to create fear and panic among the public and undermine confidence in law enforcement agencies.

He further claimed that the campaign was being driven by the banned Joint Action Committee Awam, alleging that the group had resorted to misinformation following declining public participation in its protest and a loss of public support.

The AJK Police urged the public and social media users to verify the authenticity of any news or videos before sharing them and to rely only on information from credible sources.

The spokesperson added that maintaining peace, upholding the rule of law and protecting the public remain the police's top priorities, and that all actions are carried out in accordance with the law while respecting the constitutional and legal rights of every citizen.
