ISLAMABAD (Dunya News) – The Islamabad High Court has sought a detailed report, prison records and relevant documents from Adiala Jail in proceedings related to petitions alleging that the PTI founder and his wife, Bushra Bibi, are being held in solitary confinement.
During the hearing, Justice Khadim Hussain Soomro directed the superintendent of Adiala Jail to explain whether the two prisoners had been placed in solitary confinement and, if so, under which legal provisions, in what circumstances and for what duration. The court also asked whether the confinement was imposed as a disciplinary punishment.
The court instructed jail authorities to include details of the current prison conditions of the PTI founder and Bushra Bibi, the facilities being provided to them and their response to the allegations of solitary confinement.
The Islamabad High Court observed that it would decide whether the petitions are maintainable after reviewing the reports. It also said the merits of the case would be examined once the requested records and documents are submitted.
The court directed the Adiala Jail superintendent to produce the prisoners' jail records, register entries and other relevant documents at the next hearing.
The Inspector General of Prisons was also instructed to ensure that a senior prison official with full knowledge of the facts appears before the court at the next hearing.
The court issued notices to all parties and directed that the reports be submitted by August 6.
