TARANDA MUHAMMAD PANAH (Dunya News) – Riverbank erosion along the Indus and Chenab rivers has intensified in the areas of Bait Pararah and Bait Diwan, causing widespread destruction to farmland and residential properties.
Residents said the rivers are rapidly swallowing agricultural land, standing crops and homes. Hundreds of acres of farmland have already been washed away, while several houses have been destroyed.
Crops including sesame, sugarcane, mung beans and fodder have suffered extensive damage due to the advancing erosion. Valuable trees worth millions of rupees have also been swept away by the rivers.
A video received by Dunya News shows the river eroding its banks at an alarming pace. In one dramatic scene, a buffalo grazing on the riverbank is suddenly swept away as the land beneath it collapses into the water.
Residents said the continuing erosion has forced many families to relocate on their own, adding that no effective government assistance has yet reached the affected communities.
The affected families have urged the government to take immediate measures to halt the river erosion and construct protective embankments to prevent further losses.
