LHC chief justice nominates 11 lawyers for 10 vacant Lahore High Court judgeships

Chief Justice Aalia Neelum has submitted 11 lawyers' names to the Judicial Commission of Pakistan for appointment to 10 vacant Lahore High Court judgeships.

LAHORE (Muhammad Ashfaq) – Chief Justice of the Lahore High Court (LHC) Aalia Neelum has forwarded the names of 11 senior lawyers to the Judicial Commission of Pakistan (JCP) for consideration against 10 vacant judgeships at the high court.

According to sources, the Judicial Commission had asked all its members, including the LHC Chief Justice, to submit nominations for the vacant positions by July 4 as part of the appointment process.

The Chief Justice is said to have recommended lawyers with strong professional credentials, integrity and reputations for ethical conduct.

The nominees include Islamabad Prosecutor General Ghulam Sarwar Nahang, Punjab Prosecutor General Syed Farhad Ali Shah, Advocate General Punjab Amjad Pervaiz, Deputy Attorney General Asad Bajwa, senior advocate Munawar Dogal, and senior advocate Shireen Imran.

The remaining nominees are senior advocates Kashif Rajwana, Muhammad Ajmal, Usman G. Rashid Cheema, Khalid Ibn Aziz, and Aamir Ajam.

The Judicial Commission of Pakistan will review the proposed names before preparing its final recommendations for judicial appointments. Subject to the commission's approval and completion of the constitutional process, the appointments will fill the 10 vacant positions on the Lahore High Court bench.

The vacancies are expected to strengthen the court's capacity to deal with its growing caseload and improve the timely disposal of pending cases.
