Punjab launches evidence-based traffic challan system with video and photo proof. Citizens will receive SMS alerts with violation evidence links for transparent enforcement

LAHORE (Dunya News) — The Punjab government has formally launched a modern evidence-based traffic challaning system across the province, under which every traffic challan will now be issued with complete proof, including video footage and photographs.

According to a spokesperson for the traffic police, citizens will receive an alert SMS from 8070 in case of a traffic violation, containing a link to the evidence of the offence. Through the link, citizens will be able to view videos and images related to their traffic violation.

The spokesperson said traffic challans across the province will be issued through the Traffic Police One App with supporting evidence. Introduced on the directives of Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz Sharif, the system aims to ensure transparency, fairness and convenience in the challaning process.

According to DIG Traffic Punjab Muhammad Waqas Nazeer, the evidence-based challaning system will reduce unnecessary arguments between citizens and traffic police while saving time for both sides.

He added that the system will also enable effective and evidence-backed legal action against those who fail to pay challans.

He further said the use of modern technology is making traffic police’s public-friendly services more effective, adding that prompt, transparent and fair justice is the foundation of a progressive and balanced society.
